What is Germ Cell or Germ Line Therapy? Eggs or Sperm are altered by the introduction of genes, which are integrated into their genomes. It is an "open -ended" therapy, meaning that effects future generations. It would stop defect from being passed on. The theory is that this will stop genetic disorders and diseases that are hereditary. The practice may be illegal in many areas. This is partially because the therapy may involve experimentation on early stage human embryos.
